How can I identify and interpret the motifs in Poe’s writing?
How can I write effectively?

1. Discuss the motifs in Poe’s writing
2. Journal Entry for the Horror Unit:
a. Define what suspense means to you.
b. Choose one of the non-fiction articles we read and discuss what some of the physical symptoms of fear are or what is one common phobia people suffer from.
c. Choose two stories that we have read: “The Hitchhiker”, “The Monkey’s Paw”, “The Tell-Tale Heart” or “The Black Cat” and give two specific examples of how that author attempted to build a feeling of suspense.
d. Must be 6-8 sentences long.
i. Must have higher level transitions
ii. Must have higher level vocabulary
iii. Must have a topic and a concluding sentence
2. When you are done with the Journal Entry you may free read
